Snapshot

Snapshot is a popular off-chain voting tool. Miner Councils use Snapshot to vote on council decisions. Miner Groups use Snapshot to elect representatives to Miner Councils and in constitutional processes that set the governance system rules.

Function

Snapshot is the mechanism used by Miner Councils and Miner Groups to vote on all governance related decisions.

Specification

  • Each Snapshot space has its own associated ENS name and voting “strategy.”
  • A voting strategy is how Snapshot determines the voting power of an account.
    • Council voting strategies will be 1 Council NFT = 1 Vote.
    • Constituency voting strategies will vary (e.g. 1 Staked TEL = 1 Vote, 1 TEL worth of LPT = 1 Vote, etc.)
  • Each Snapshot space will be configured with Zodiac Reality. This allows Snapshot spaces to make on-chain transactions on behalf of their corresponding Gnosis Safe.
  • Initially, Snapshot spaces will have some number of admins that can change configuration. Over time, these admins will be removed and configuration will be handled by ENS. Once configurations are handled by ENS, a formal governance vote by the council marked “controller” is required to change Snapshot space configurations. Once configuration of snapshot spaces are handled via ENS, modifying snapshot configurations requires a vote by the Compliance Council.

    • Rationale

    Snapshot is a highly popular DAO voting tool. It has a familiar, intuitive interface and does not require transaction fees. It is highly extensible and new features and improvements are continuously added by the community.
